What is the PSTN/ISDN Switch off and why is it happening?
BT announced intentions in shutting down the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). This shutdown is to be completed by 2025 and will impact a wide range of communications products, specifically those that use Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) services and onsite Phone systems. By September 2023, all products within the WLR services will be removed from sale in preparation for the move to next generation digital services as technology and customer behaviours change companies across the globe are moving from analogue to digital. In a short and sweet version, the switch is fairly overdue! With PBX technology becoming obsolete and surpassed quality and convenience for businesses in comparison to its new digital cloud-based counterparts which are much more efficient.
